SPRU (Science Policy Research Unit), based at University of Sussex, is one of the world's leading academic organisations researching innovation and innovation policy. It currently employs 45 researchers, has an active postgraduate research arm with approximately 65 PhD students and 70 MSc students, and is home to a number of the leading innovation related journals including Research Policy, Industrial and Corporate Change, and International Journal of Innovation Management. It was founded 40 years ago with a specific policy focus to its research, and has accumulated over 1,000 person years of policy research on innovation.
